Aim of the subject: Develop students’ competencies to apply concepts, data and methods of user-centered design to ensure the efficient operation and safe and comfortable human use
of systems, products and services. Participants will be able to recognize ergonomic problems, to solve simple tasks and to select appropriate measures.

1. Introduction, principles, concepts. User-centered design.
2. History of Ergonomics, fields of application.
3. Basics of Anthropometry. Determination of product dimensions. Anthropometric designing of tools.
4. Posture and comfortable sitting.
5. Human effort. Internal and external loads. Manual handling.
6. Ergonomic workplace risks assessment.
7. Design of workplaces and jobs.
8. Environmental factors: visual, acoustical environment, climate.
9. Ergonomic quality of products. The focus group method.
10. Usability. The methods of evaluation.
11. The basics of human information processing.
12. Controls and displays. User interface design.
13. The return on ergonomic investments.
14. The human error.

Midterm requirement is 7 point out of the total 14 (5 for essay, 3 for each small task). At the examination test 14 points can be obtained. The grade determined by the sum of midterm and examination points as follows: excellent above 23; good 20-23; satisfactory 17-20; sufficient 14-17; not passed under 14 points.
